Celebrity Sighting #1

I was at this fabulous dress shop on West Queen West (878 Queen West, to be exact) a few weeks ago (I know, I should have posted right afterwards…next time I see a celebrity I won’t wait to share the news)….and guess who I ran into.

I thought I recognized her voice. She was asking the sales clerk to help her find a dress for a wedding that she would be attending later this summer.

I turned around and looked at the mystery person to see if I could match the face to the voice….

And I saw….

MARY WALSH ! a.k.a. Marg Delahunty a.k.a. “Marg : Princess Warrior”.

In case any of you aren’t familiar with “Marg, Princess Warrior”, she is a recurring character on the hilarious Canadian news parody show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” She has interviewed many Canadian politicians including Stephen Harper, the RCMP, Jean Chretien, and Mike Duffy.

However, her most famous turn as Marg was the time she “ambushed” (i.e. tried to interview) a very red-faced Rob Ford at his home in October 2011. Our Illustrious Mayor called the cops instead of answering her questions. Oh, he didn’t only call the police. He called 911. What would he have possibly said to the 911 operator??

911 Operator: “911. What is your emergency?”

Rob Ford: “HEEEELLLLPPP ! !! ! THERE IS A LARGE WOMAN DRESSED LIKE XENA IN MY DRIVEWAY TRYING TO……ASK ME QUESTIONS! ! !  HOW DARE SHE! ! ! DOESN’T SHE KNOW WHO I AM?!?!?!?F$%K  S$%T F$%K! !!  I’M A F#$%KING MANIAC ! ! ! AAAAAAaaaahhhHHHHHHhhhhh! ! !”

911 Operator: “*Click*”.

I don’t think that re-telling of the conversation is that far from the truth, actually. Sadly.

I let Mary Walsh know personally how brilliant I thought the Marg: Warrior Princess – Rob Ford Ambush Edition was.

I didn’t want to invade Mrs. Walsh’s privacy, so I left after a brief chat and didn’t take any photos of her.  Paparazzi in training, I am not.

Have any of my readers ever encountered a celebrity in Toronto or elsewhere? If so, tell me about it ! ! !

Stay tuned!

  1. I saw David Suzuki at the airport. Or I walked by a guy who looked exactly like him. Then I thought to myself, “I just saw David Suzuki.” That was about it. I like him even more now, then at that time so I might actually run after him if I ever saw him again.
